MerSea's Website!

It's here! svMerSea.com! And you are here reading this! It's not finished but hopefully won't be for a long time! -I hope it's ever-changing & becomes filled with our adventures. So check it out! The blogs will continue on the other site until the end of August & then only be updated on the website after that.

My next goal is to figure out how to create videos of our adventures in addition to the blog. Those hopefully will start coming along in a month.

Some Zephyr snuggles for everyone.

Happy Highlights of the Week: Our website going live! Moving up to #4 on the waitlist for our slip! Beautiful sunrise! Zephyr going pee on the grass mat onboard.

Yes! We are #4 on the waitlist for our slip! We have the slip temporarily until November -unless our names come up to #1 on the waiting list. So we feel pretty confident we won't have to move MerSea to, God forbid, to Moss Landing! -Actually if this happens, I'm calling it as a sign just to set sail for the world right now.

Dawn from our slip.

The sunrise speaks for itself. See below:

And Zephyr peed once more on the grass mat! I think it's the 3rd or 4th time. -I know, more involved parents would have a chart with stars. But I did give him a couple of treats. A weird thing though was that when the pee started moving towards the scupper, (a hole in a boat's cockpit to drain any water back out to sea), he used his nose to try to move the grass mat to cover it. And then started sort of scraping his head on the cockpit floor. Not sure what this means but if anyone does know, please give me a heads up. Anyway, hoping he gets more comfortable with the grass mat.

I'm a dope doggie! (Although, I do look a bit like Paddington the bear here. But I'd definitely could kick Paddington's ass!)

Dissapointments of the Week: We might not get the standing rigging replaced on our boat before our scheduled voyage! Insanely bad allergies! Missing a few days of Spinnaker class. Bending our wind vane going under the bridge.

Matt standing amidst the standing rigging.

Standing rigging is what basically keeps the mast from falling down. We were supposed to get it worked on in April. It isn't that we know it's not up to snuff but it's that we don't know & don't have any record on when it was last replace. Luckily we have a friend who is a rigger. He took a look at our boat right after we bought it & told us it would be a good idea to replace it. We told him great & that we'd like to hire him to do it whenever he was able to.

So in February I got a hold of him & he thought he could probably do it in April. Then he said that he was a month behind & that it wouldn't be until the end of May. Then he said that he was a month behind again & that it wouldn't be until the end of June.... So on & so forth. I told him last week that since it seemed to be too hard to fit into his schedule right now that we would just have it replaced in November; after our trip. He replied that he really wouldn't recommend that we take our trip until the rigging is done. -That it would be fine sailing south but comming back might be too hard on the boat. (Does this sound like another sign that we should just leave for Mexico next month?) Crankily I told Matt his reply. A tiny part of me was thinking that we should just go anyway. -See this is where sailors get into trouble. Impatience is not a sailors' friend. But Matt was like, "Well, I guess we should just follow his advice.". "You weren't thinking that we should go anyway? Were you?". Me:"Of course not!". -While the toddler inside me was actually on the floor throwing a tantrum! And the downward spiral began..... We're never going to make this happen... blah, blah, blah. I don't need to go into the whole inner dialogue. However, by the end of the day, Matt had given me a pep talk/talking to & I was back on track. Right now I'm just hoping our friend will come through & get our project done this month. -He said he would try to make it happen. We shall see.

I had no idea I could suffer allergies off land. But the wind was so gnarly the other day that my eyes were itchy & puffy beyond belief. -Out on the water! Not fun! Not much of an interesting topic but I do think it's what made me feel like I had the flu last week & caused me to miss 2 days of spinnaker class. I guess I missed out on some harrowing sails. Matt went to class & mentioned that it did feel a bit precarious with several people learning to sail in high winds actually sailing in high winds. It's making him a more confident sailor though. -Whether he knows it or not. I mean if I praise him too much he might turn into Captin Bligh!

I don't know if the tide report is wrong now. -Kind of doubt it because it's been acurate for the last 15 months we've started using it. But we bent our wind vane trying to go under the bridge Monday morning & we should have had ample enough of space. Not a huge deal but a definite bummer because fixing it requires going up the mast. -Which I wish I could do but I wouldn't know how to do anything once I got up there. Although, if it's broken then we have to buy a new one & expenses come in droves & add up! It's mostly a dissappointment because I thought we were really past the phase of worrying about this type of thing. -Another clue we just should leave & sail out of here?

Well, I'll tell you more about our anchor out, spinnaker class & sails next week. -As I have to get some things done before class this evening.

See you next week!
