2 Years!

It’s been 2 years since we adopted MerSea! -I might add that it does NOT feel like it was just yesterday. We’ve been working with her for what seems like quite a while & I think we really feel like she’s ready for Mexico. In fact, I think Zephyr is ready for Mexico. Okay, Matt & I are the ones really ready for Mexico. But we are blaming that on MerSea & Zephyr!

I’m just throwing up random photos - that are related to MerSea -that may or may not have been seen before.

Thought I’d bring this up again - for those of you who are new & don’t want to sound silly when talking about our boat. How do you pronounce MerSea? Her name is Merci/pronounced like the French word Merci but we spell it MerSea. If you need more help, here’s a link: https://www.google.com/search?q=french+pronunciation+merci&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS958US958&oq=french+pronunciation+of+mer&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0i22i30l5j0i390i650l4.11241j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 We are still very thankful for her! And if you pronounce her name wrong we will throw you overboard!

We went sailing last week! It had actually been a month! I thought we were getting video of it. I set up my GoPro! Did I forget to press record? Maybe….. So that won’t be happening again when we go out this Thursday.

The day started out sunny but then decided to get really cloudy & cold once we were out there. Yes. Yes, I do feel that the weather has something against me. But I will keep giving it chances to redeem itself. -Because, well, I have no other choice.

Anyway, the wind went from 14 - 21 knots. -Which was pretty nice. Our speed got up to 6.8 knots! Plus, the wave swell was only about 3 feet. However, being the wuss that I am, we went in after about 1.5 hours. I just can’t take that iciness in the wind if I don’t have to.

So not really proof that we went sailing but proof we were on the boat. And I don’t have proof that this was taken last Thursday but just look into Zephyr’s eyes & you’ll know.

Still working on learning the video process. I just put a new video up on the YouTube Channel: youtube.com/@svmersea. It’s hopefully the last of the aimless type of video. The one we have coming out in 2 weeks should be much more enthralling. -If you get excited about installing new stantions.

I think we’re getting closer to a bimini design. We have to get creative because Catalina 30s do not come with a bimini. And most Catalina 30 owners do not put one on their boat. We’d really like one though. The sun can get really strong & it’s a pain to solely rely on a hat for shade. Plus, it’d be nice to have a little more protection from the cold during night sails. Even though it wasn’t raining on our trip down to SoCal, our beanies got soaked through just from the moisture in the air. I know that they still probably will but hopefully it will take longer to get saturated from the cold dampness.

We will have to do a mock up with some materials on the boat to get a feel of what will actually work, proportions, comfort, etc… After that though, it’s our intention to get it made into reality.

This is the area that we want to shade with a bimini. If you have any good ideas, put them in the comments below!

And that’s pretty much a wrap for this week! Editing videos took a bunch of my time, so this is a short one. I will be learning to work on my editing time management skills. Then everything will fall into place more easily & I’ll have hours upon hours for videos & blogs!!!
