Anchored Out

Santa Cruz Pier

That’s right! We made it out to our backyard this weekend for 2 nights! Feels so good to experience what all this work is for. We still did do work on the boat. However, we also make of point of relaxing at times. I think Saturday morning we didn’t even get up until 9:30!

Before we left, Matt was able to put up the new handles on the cabinets. -And they’re all straight! Not sure what was going on before but it was a crap job. It only took 16 years to fix! I will have to take a photo of the whole room after we complete all the tasks & clean it up. It’s definitely a much nicer space to be in.

We packed up & got to the boat on Thursday afternoon. No one else was on the dock that day. Kind of weird. But then there wasn’t that temptation to hang out with the neighbors instead of working. Most of the time we can hold steadfast against joining them but it’s hard because they’re all pretty awesome!

That afternoon Matt tested the solar panels that we currently have & figured out a plan for adding more. -Because we ain’t sailing in the 17th century! Thank God!

Ugh. Where to start?

Let the fun begin!

One of my projects was to clean & oil more of the teak in the boat. I worked on the closet & drawers Thursday evening. Now I can finally start bringing over all my clothes!

Psyching myself up to do the teak. Sometimes it’s not as fun as I make it seem! 😂

Gaze upon this teak! Let’s see how long it can stay pretty.

And Zephyr’s job was…. well, he’s so cute, he can do whatever he wants.

I tried to get a fashion shot wearing our sweatshirt, Get One Here, but I see now that I should of posed so you could actually see our logo. Ah well, next time.

Friday morning was a bit dreary. It was urgent that we got moving early to get under the bridge before the tide came up. There was a lack of wind at that time. So, we thought we’d anchor first & maybe sail in the afternoon.

Stopping at the fuel dock for things other than fuel on our way out to anchor.

First job was to get the rocker stopper up. It’s actually called the, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Stabilizer System”. -Made by Magma. Hey they make propane grills, so why not a device that helps a boat roll less? 🤔 Well, Samsung made our oven range in our kitchen, so why can’t a company manufacture horizontally & sell things that have no relation to one another?

Matt did get it up on our boom & stuck it on the middle boom bale. By the power of wishful thinking, at first we thought it was working. Yet, by the evening we knew it definitely wasn’t doing much. So Matt moved it to the end of the boom the next day & it totally made a difference! So nice!

Matt reads the 2 sentence instruction manual that came with the stabilizer.

When the sun did start to come out on Friday, I thought that it be mandatory that we all lay out in the cockpit for a while. -That included Zephyr. We put the Doggles on him a few times. He’s not in love with them but he did end up tolerating them for about a minute. Crossing our fingers that he learns to love them in the bright sun.

Centerfold shot!

The wind picked up in the afternoon but we had started on projects. So decided to stay put. It is an icy wind that usually blows from the north. Therefore, even if the sun is out, it takes a lot to really be warm here.

Zephyr & I were glad to have blankets to snuggle up in.

A lot of this might as well be in Greek because I only understand some of it. Matt installed & tested our new 12V LTE/WIFI router. -I do know that it worked great! He also wired in a couple new USB charge ports. -Things like this never cease to amaze me. Furthermore, he ordered several parts to standardize our 12V connections (the autopilots & 12V power to the helm).

Looks simple right? Think again & look below:

Some kind of sorcery going on here.

  1. Zephyr & I enjoying outside while Matt works inside. Actually, I was just staying out of the way of the mess below.

  2. Matt fixing & relocating the high water alarm.

  3. & 4. The mess at the bottom of the companionway.

The Chardonnay.

A staple in the daily charters that go out in the Santa Cruz Bay.

Of course, the morning we needed to get back into port, the sun was out early! Seriously, it was nice in the cockpit at 8AM! Oh well, I just decided to enjoy it while we made our way back under the bridge & to our slip.

Beautiful, Sunday morning in Santa Cruz!

We have a new YouTube video out! Watch the live action version of our experience last weekend! Just click on the pic below to view it!

So we’re feeling back on track again. Good to get back into the feel of boat life. It’s nice to have much of what we’re going to need on our voyage, taken care of at this point. I mean, we still have a lot to do but it feels manageable. And we can always make adjustments or add something, if the situation arises, at ports on the way down the coast.

Snuggle buddies.

Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to check out this week’s video. Also, if your wardrobe needs a bit of a lift, go to our “Treat Yourself” link at the top of this page. We appreciate all of your support! See you next week!
