Like An Anchor In The Wind…:November 27th - December 1st, 2024
After leaving Santa Rosalia, we partially sailed to Bahia Santo Domingo for a night to split up the voyage to San Juanico. Of course the wind started coming straight from the south, so for the last few hours we did have to motor but it’s always so nice to be able to sail at all in the finicky winds of the Gulf of California.
Santo Domingo was calm. We got there on the late side so we didn’t make it to shore. We had an uneventful night, which is always good. And we got some great sleep!
We left from the anchorage on the early side, as I knew the winds were going to really pick up in the late afternoon & it was going to be a long, all-day trip. What we weren’t expecting was that Matt would catch 2 black skipjacks on the way to San Juanico! So we were stoked to be all good for dinners for the next several nights!
The first full day we were there, due to the wind, was not ideal for even getting off of the boat. I did jump in the water though. It was Thanksgiving. So we were just grateful that we had somewhere to be safe. And it is a pretty beautiful spot. Plus, we had the fresh fish that Matt had caught to have as our holiday dinner! -Zephyr was especially happy about that!
The following day, Matt got up super early, before the super gnarly winds kicked up, & went snorkeling. I have a hard time getting inspired to get in cold water before 8AM. So I just watched him & lived through him vicariously.
I did eventually get to go snorkeling on our last day there. We both agree that it’s a pretty amazing place if you want to see about 100 different types of fish in the water! So cool! But kind of cold. You definitely need a wetsuit.
My boys!

We are in an anchorage right now & do have limited power for being online. So I will let our video tell you more about our time in San Juanico. You can almost feel the wind while watching it!
Oh hi. Let me just stop reading for a moment. What is it that you want?
Thanks for reading & watching! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to comment below or email us! We’ll be back next week! Until then, blast your heater up to 80 degrees in your living room, wear a swimsuit & pretend you’re on an island somewhere! -Maybe you will be in the next year!
