The Ballad of Don Juan & Bahia de Los Angeles: February 22nd - 26th, 2024

There was a storm coming up the way.

So, we decided to leave the bay

Of Alacran Cove.

We pulled our anchor up.

Got the PFD on our pup,

Headed north & strove

To get MerSea into Puerto Don Juan.

-A safe place before the next dawn.

It’s an anchorage that’s almost closed in.

We got there in about an hour.

Using both wind & engine power.

For protection, this place is a win!

Only one other boat there.

It made us happy that we got to share

This tranquil bay with friendly faces.

We said hi & went to shore.

Zephyr ran & ran some more.

He’s loved the beaches in all the places.

The next day we went for some hiking.

Views at the top of the hills were striking.

But Matt got a yearning to fish.

Zephyr & I cleaned the boat.

-Tidying up our home that likes to float.

And Matt came back with our dinner dish!

Three Rockfish he caught.

This is an experience that can’t be bought.

He brought them back to MerSea.

We grilled one for our meal.

Froze the other two. What a deal!

There’s no place we’d rather be!

Another one bites the bait!

The weather had gotten calm.

So we got up after dawn.

And motored over to BLA.

Bahia Los Angeles is a town,

To anchor in when the swell is down.

-Definitely not a protected bay

Got some lunch at a place to eat.

It had been a while, so it was a treat.

But we got a bill for $8 lemonades!

The food & the view was nice,

But not the lemonade price.

Begrudgingly, we got up & paid.

Then we walked over to a store.

The selection they had was a little poor.

Luckily, there was another market down the way.

It was a place with groceries to buy.

-Even veggies to stir-fry

And that definitely made our day.

The next day, Matt took care of laundry & water.

And I played with our little trotter,

Zephyr, on the beach, birdie chasing.

We decided to leave the next morning,

After I checked for weather warnings.

Always know what weather you’ll be facing.

So, there’s not a lot to tell.

It wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t hell.

Not everywhere, can be paradise.

Just thankful for places to stop.

-Where we can be safe &/or where we can shop.

Knowing the life we are living is pretty nice!

So I’m not exactly Shakespeare but hopefully you can at least understand me. We’ll probably be stopping by these two places on our way back down & we’ll be thankful again that they are there. Maybe we’ll discover even more now that we know where the good market is, where to get water & where we can do our laundry. Possibly some hiking & fishing?

My name is Zephyr & I love long runs on the beach, fresh fish, barking at birds & playing with my Foxie.

Thanks for reading! Next Wednesday get ready for another blog about…who knows what, but there will be a video of us at two more anchorages of Punta Mangles & San Juanico! Until then, let us know what you are doing this summer in the comments below!
