What Was Once A Dream…

It was 5 years ago this month when a little seed of a dream popped into my head! (You can actually read the blog post here: https://www.svmersea.com/blog/the-journey-begins). Crazy! It took me a long time to find something I found interesting/worthy enough to pursue & not give up on when things got tough. At times I find it hard to believe how far I/We have come!

Back in 2019 after taking our first dinghy class!

Even so, I still find it hard to be patient. It’s silly, but somehow I have doubts that we will go further on this adventure. -Like I will screw something up & it will all fall apart. But that’s when I have to remember that it took a lot of baby steps to get here & I just need to take a least one step a day to continue. I mean if people can walk across continents, I can surely take one step a day, even if only figuratively, to eventually get down to mainland Mexico & then beyond. And then beyond that. And to also get a bigger boat. And to inspire more people to go after what they want & keep going even after getting discouraged.

If you do have a seedling of a dream here are a few tips:

1- Many people were naysayers at the beginning, who are now very supportive. Sometimes it takes a while for people to know if you are really serious about setting out on your goals & dreams. They might need to see if you are going to stick with it & be persistent. Other people might just be jealous & you might have to refrain from talking about your big plans to them.

2- Did I mention how hard it is to be patient? It might help to keep track of each step you take daily. And then you can compare how far you have come in a week. -Even if it’s just a microscopic move. And then each month look at your progress & then each year. During this time, in between actions, remember to have fun doing other stuff too. -Because a lot of the steps you take toward your dream will NOT be fun.

3- I’ve learned to strive for what I want but be open to other options. When I dream, I dream big. But I’ve been lucky to have Matt to force me to look at other options. I probably would have given up by now because we didn’t have a 38 foot or larger boat, or a boat that was a lot newer than MerSea. But it was nice to just start sailing our own boat, 3 years ago, & taking a 1st trip to Catalina & then a 2nd trip to Mexico! And now a 3rd trip is coming up this autumn. I would have missed out on all of these adventures if I stuck with my original vision of bigger & newer boat. -I believe that will eventually come but in the meantime I’m focusing going on new voyages & exploring new places.

I could give more tips but start with those 3. Just start. Take one step a day, no matter how small, on moving towards what you want. Signing up for a class. Saving a dollar & set up a savings for your dream. Throw that temper tantrum when something doesn’t work out as hoped. And then go right back to finding a way on your path again. Don’t give up.

And yes! We have a new video up! Take a look at our experience in Puerto Escondido. Just click the photo below:

That’s it for this week! Go out there, be brave & take that 1st baby step!

5 years ago this pup had no idea where he’d be traveling to & how he would be getting to those places! So happy he loves it!

Thanks for reading & watching & just being supportive in general! Next week we will be back to catching you up with our travels in the Sea of Cortez. Upcoming stops in Puerto Don Juan & Bahia de Los Angeles. Until then go outside & get some sun!
