Now You’ll Know What We Did Last Summer!
We did lots of stuff this summer! It was actually probably a more productive summer than we’ve ever had. -Maybe because we got used to always being busy while we were sailing. Probably also because we had goals we wanted to accomplish before we went back to Mexico. Some were in preparation for Mexico & some were things we finally got off our asses & finally took care of a bunch of projects that we’ve been meaning to do for years.
Mid-June we moved back into our house. (The tenants took a break this summer from living in Santa Cruz. They move back in later though.) Luckily we didn’t hurl all the stuff, we had in storage in the garage, back into the house. We actually got rid of more stuff!
It was a little surreal being back. We didn’t even use our old bedroom. The tenants moved the bed into what we used as an office & so we just kept it there. -Along with the desk. What was really great is that we kept the old bedroom door closed & we only had to turn on the heat a few times! We used to have to put it on daily, even in the summer.
It was really fun to see our friend Jenn. -Who has just bought an awesome bus & now is doing some land sailing around the US. She actually sailed to Mexico 10 years ago! -I think everything was harder back then than it is now. There are some more conveniences in Mexico than there used to be, we have Starlink now & produce seems fairly easy to come by in most towns. Anyway, it’s fun to watch each other’s adventures!
Matt bought a fishing kayak so he could still be practicing his fishing skills. Unfortunately there seems to be more fish willing to be caught in Mexico than Santa Cruz.
My parents came up for a visit in July. I think it was one of the few times that they’ve been here when the weather’s been nice!
Our sailing teacher, Rusty, was given a retirement party. He coached sailing at UCSC for many years & now he can go sailing for himself. He was an excellent teacher! I think we had about 5 or 6 classes with him!
We tried to get several things done before leaving Mexico. I think we got more than half of the items on the list below crossed off! Pretty good, as a bunch of stuff changed & a bunch of stuff is out of our control. Yeah, in the sailing life, you have to lock up your control freak monster half of the time or you’ll go insane!
Melissa, Matt’s sister, and her family came out to stay with us for a few days! It was really fun! We took as much time as possible out of our working schedule to go to the boardwalk, the beach, hiking, fishing & even did a round of miniature golf! In fact, Matt got the last hole in 1 & won a ticket for another round sometime!
That’s a tidied up version of what we were up to in Santa Cruz during the summer. It turned out to be pretty okay, being back in Santa Cruz & not on MerSea. We are definitely all looking forward to being back on the boat in Mexico though!
Thanks for reading! Coming up next week you’ll get treated to a video of a Caribbean adventure! Well, sort of an adventure. I go visit my sister in the British Virgin Islands! Until then, stay off of the candy until Halloween!
