From A Boat To An RV To A Small Apartment…March 31st to…2024

Our new living space.

We got back to Santa Cruz on March 31st. We Airbnb’d it for a few days & then moved into a small apartment. Although, it did feel somewhat big to us! I mean, it was pretty spacious compared to MerSea.

Unfortunately, we needed to supply the apartment with quite a few things to make it functional. -Mostly kitchen stuff. But we’ll be able to use it again if we stay in one of those apartments next year.

Part of me easily adapted to being back in Santa Cruz. I mean I could go out & get all the groceries I wanted & needed. I could see my friends. I didn’t have to worry about making sure I didn’t use too much electricity. I could take a shower whenever I wanted.

I’m not going to lie though. It was hard to get back to life here. I felt depressed because what had been consuming my life for the last 6+ months was now behind me. I knew we were going to go back but there weren’t any new experiences happening. I wasn’t as in the moment as I had been & I felt kind of aimless. I felt like I was going backwards. So I met with a therapist for about a month & she got me back on track. Sometimes you just need someone who’s really on the outside for a better perspective.

Matt gets out Foxie again, so we can keep up our sailing skills.

Besides getting back to work, we wanting to keep ourselves occupied or better ourselves in someway. I took on swimming. I actually took a few swimming lessons to get better on my swimming form. -I’m really hoping I’m going to be able to get in the water more this time since we are moving in the warmer direction. Matt also went swimming. However, his form is already awesome so he just went for exercise. -Which he found to be kind of boring. I guess it would be to someone that free-dives & snorkels a lot.

We both took Spanish classes. I think we’re both practicing every day. But it really helps to enroll in the classes Babbel has to offer. I take 3 to 4 a week & I can tell my Spanish is getting stronger. I still have a long way to go but I’m definitely better than I was 6 months ago.

Matt started taking Yoga classes at the climbing gym. They have really great rates! So if you are in Santa Cruz, check out the classes at Pacific Edge.

I went back to Aerial Silks. I started again at the beginning. On the other hand, it amazed me at how much my body remembered & how easily I started falling back into it. I wish I could rig a silk to our mast!

Matt wanted to keep up with the fishing. Unfortunately, fishing around our area of Santa Cruz wasn’t very prosperous. We definitely just need to go back to Mexico. He is wasting precious time here!

And Matt started practicing his spearfishing. All I know is that the water is freezing here; even with a wetsuit! I’m cold just thinking about it & I haven’t even touched the water since we’ve been back! Okay. Maybe I’ve put my feet in the water on an exceptionally hot day here. But other than that, I’ve been wearing my slipper socks as much as possible.

I got my hair tidied up.

After getting back we also took care of ourselves a bit. I got my unruly hair taken care of by my friend & hair stylist, Missy. Zephyr got his teeth cleaned & vaccinations up to date. I went to a few doctor appointments. Matt found out his insurance dropped him. They didn’t let him know. He just realized he hadn’t been charged in a few months. He then wasn’t able to get insurance until about a week ago. -Just so he’s covered in case of anything catastrophic happening to him. So that was all fun for him to deal with.

Thankfully, Behan, from Sailing Totem, helped us with figuring out some supplemental insurance while we are in Mexico. -So we will be completely covered for almost anything in the next 6/7 months!

Taking Foxie out so we don’t forget how to sail.

Finally, yes, we did get to sail. We took out Foxie a few times. It’s good to keep the sailing skills up. I almost forgot how to set up our little sailboat. Thankfully Matt didn’t. I also almost forgot how to sail a smaller sailboat! And thankfully Matt reminded me of how to do that too! What I didn’t forget, was how much colder Santa Cruz is than Mexico!

I’ll catch you all up, in a few weeks, of the other things that went on during the last 6 months. We both got a few chances to get outside of Santa Cruz. So that was fun!

Daddy, I will always want your food. No matter where we live. That is how much I love you!

Thanks for reading! Next week you’ll get to watch us make our way back to Santa Cruz! If you read the blog about it, then you get to see it all in action. -Or at least most of it. If you haven’t read that blog, why not? So, until next Wednesday, buy yourself a new sweater! It’s starting to get cold out there!
