What a Year!!!
So April 8th will be the 1 year anniversary of owning MerSea! We still believe we really lucked out when we found her. This past year has been an amazing experience - even if the last few months have felt like we took on a futile endeavor.
This posting will basically be a photo blog to look back upon the past year. I do wish that there were more of a variety of photos but hopefully those will eventually come in this next year. For now, join us in reminiscing over the last 12 months.
The cleanest our boat will ever look! Still have my eye on reupholstering the cushions.
First meal on MerSea!
Got her name in print.
Zephyr took to MerSea pretty easily.
He loves his v-berth cave.
I look so happy & relaxed!
Close neighbor!
Anchored out by Boardwalk.
Matt swims home to work.
Matt paddles back to our water home.
Love anchoring!
Night work.
Behold… the engine room/rather compartment.
Leveraging our heavy motor.
The only place Zephyr could find to sit. Luckily his daddy came & sat beside him with breakfast!
Is there anything we would have wished that we would have known before buying the boat?
We did know, for the most part, that it was going to be a lot of work. I didn't realize that the work would take much, much more time than you ever could estimate. -Right now, that's mostly because everything is on backorder. But also because you end up finding other things that need fixing when you are working on anything in the boat.
The cost of parts didn't really surprise me -as I did my homework on prices of just about everything beforehand. It's expensive but we live in Santa Cruz & we know nothing of things that are called reasonably priced anymore.
The one thing I do wish we would have known before buying the boat is how hard it would be to leave & return to the dock. (Getting in & out of our slip). That was the most stressful part of this last year. It wouldn't have prevented us from buying the boat but we might have tried to be more prepared. So thank you, Dad, for helping us with actually getting the boat our of the harbor & back. And a big thanks to Jenn, for giving me encouragement that we would eventually get it & it would be a lot less scary as the time went by.
Aside from that, I wish I would have known how much I love owning a boat & sailing. I wish we would have done it sooner. However, I don't think the time was right until now. So may I say merci to MerSea. We are blessed that you came into our lives!
Next week there will be updates on our progress & what we hope to accomplish in the next year.
