A Crazy 2 Weeks

Zephyr & Me on the beach during the heat wave.

First it was absolutely perfect weather & then fires hit. -Yes, they literally hit this area. We had amazing hot weather, (in the 90s like I love it), & then there was a lightening storm which started many little fires that turned into bigger fires. There is never lightening in this area. -Especially without rain. So no one was prepared to be dealing with several dangerous fires here in Santa Cruz & other cities close by. In fact, a lot of people had to evacuate. We actually thought we might have to & packed a bunch of our special belongings up just in case. It has definitely been a scary situation & hundreds of people have lost their homes. Very sad.

Ash falling all around our house.

Lots of ash….

Needless to say I let a lot of things fall by the wayside; including this blog. Sailing of course is put on hold until the air is healthy enough outside to breath again. I did think, during the nights that we were prepared to evacuate, that now would be the perfect time to own a live-aboard sailboat. But in seriousness we are lucky that our house is still here. Lucky that we have an Airbnb that we could have my friend's parents stay while they are on evacuation. Just lucky in a lot of ways.

Here is what the sky looked like for a few days.

Actually able to photograph the sun.

Hopefully next week will be filled with a sailing story or two.
