Moving on Up

Me looking like some kind of funky ninja while taking a stealthy photo during sailing class.

We finished our ASA Coastal Cruising Class! Pretty fun class. Gave me the confidence to know we can definitely sail a keelboat. Not that I really had any doubts but nice to put it into practice. I have to say it's actually easier, for the most part, than sailing our little dinghy. -Which we haven't sailed again since finishing the class but will next week. Will it still be enjoyable when we do? I hope so but I am more than ready to have a keelboat of our own!

Speaking of owning a keelboat, there is a 36' Catalina for sale in the Santa Cruz Harbor right now! It's almost my dream monohull. Would rather have a 38' but I would definitely take this one. Here is a photo of it:

This boat is in great condition. Plus, did I mention that she's in our harbor? -Getting a slip at Santa Cruz Harbor is like winning the lottery. Anyway, she's out of our budget right now. I'd be willing to get a loan but Matt doesn't want to add on to our debt that we already have with our mortgage. Plus, he wants to save up for our retirement & have an emergency savings. -Both of which I agree with but I really want a boat to go cruising in & I want it before we get old.

Actually my dream boat is a 42' Lagoon Catamaran! Catamarans are amazing to go cruising in but way pricier than monohulls. So we might have to wait for the Catamaran Fairy to come but I won't give up hope. It would have to be a 2008 or later version as the layout gets better in 2008. Here is an example of a Lagoon 42:

Anyway, I will continue to dream & work on my patience. I will also continue to keep learning about not only sailing but about boats & their parts & how to fix them.

We did finally take our ASA 101 Basic Sailing exam & we passed. It's funny that we both got 96 out of 100 questions right but they were totally different questions that we got wrong. So I'd say we make a good sailing team.

Well, got to get to work so I can make money to put away for our future boat! Until next week....
