I'm Back & Life is Good

Matt with our Sea Trial skipper at the Haul Out.

Where do I even start?! This seems a bit overwhelming but it will just get more so if I put it off any longer. I guess I'll start with the present & go backwards.

Yesterday we had a survey, sea trial & haul out of a boat we are probably going to buy. It's a 1984 Catalina 30. It's in pretty good condition as the owner didn't take it out sailing for the last 2 years but made tons of upgrades.

Did we know or plan to buy a boat at this time? No! It's crazy! But we've been looking & found this one on Craigslist & YachtWorld last month & decided just to check it out. So we checked it out, it looked great, made an offer, the owner accepted the offer, we took a look at the boat again & yesterday had it properly examined. (Insert panting noise here.) This all started on March 20th & today it's April 6th. We are 99% sure we are going to buy it - unless something crazy comes up. The surveyor thought it was a great deal & that we were lucky for finding it. Oh course there will be little things here & there to repair or fix up but nothing major. So stay tuned....

On another note, we started sailing a lot again beginning last month in our Capri, Foxie. And we got our dog, Zephyr to come out with us! He's scared of the dock but seems to enjoy sailing - except for the parts when he gets splashed by water. We're stoked that he enjoys it for the most part though.

Zephyr enjoying the sail.

Zephyr wondering why we let him get splashed.

What else?... Oh yes, Matt & I passed our ASA 103 written test! So we feel a little more accomplished now. He got a 94 & I got an 87. So he says now people can call him Captain 94 & that I'll be Captain 87. Hmmm... we'll see about that.

Mid-way through March we decided that we needed a small break from the ho-hum of our Covid era lives. We rented a (stationary) boat in Alameda through Airbnb. It was over 100 years old but fixed up beautifully! So cozy & comfortable too. We didn't do much. It was raining most of the time we were there but it was so nice to relax! If we are at home we're always working. Forced exile from our home is the only way to get us to take a break.

Good Luck - a boat from 1917 that we stayed on.

Well, I'm not going to go all the way back to October, (I think that is when I last blogged). It was pretty uneventful & I got discouraged about our sailing dream more often than not. So, not a really fun thing to share.

Hopefully, I'll be back in a few days in shock, overwhelmed & absolute joy that we purchased our first keelboat!

Until then, thanks for reading!
