We Bought a Boat!
OMG! I have been trying to post this for the last 2 months but life has been pretty busy! On April 8th we bought this 1984 Catalina 30 in the Santa Cruz Harbor & couldn't be happier!
The previous owner spent more than what we paid for the boat in fixing her up. -Including: new windows, cushions, stove, tons of tools, running rigging, bottom paint, bulkhead replacement, instrument panel..... I could go on & on. We got very lucky & so glad we jumped on this chance when it came up.
I will be posting more about our experience in the next few days but here are some photos from early on:
Oh, and what's the name of her - you might be asking? Here is the explanation I gave friends & family: I guess the owner was going to rename her & never got around to it. So currently there is no name on the boat. -This hopefully puts everyone's mind at ease who believe in the superstition that it is bad luck to rename a boat. (Although we don't believe this to be true.)Anyway, drumroll..... her name is Merci but we are spelling it MerSea. It just popped into my head & Matt really liked it. We just feel very thankful, (in case you don't know French, Merci means thank you), that we were given this opportunity to buy this boat. And it's kind of meta as Mer & Sea mean the same thing. -Which I probably didn't have to point out to anyone but just in case. We do know that many people might pronounce it like mercy. However, we don't mind this too much as we hope the boat, ocean & weather will have mercy on us throughout our journey with her.
Anyway, hoping to post more information & stories in the next week. Thanks for reading!
