Sailing in the time of Corona ~ COVID-19 that is

Matt on Foxie at the Santa Cruz Harbor

We went sailing last Thursday & the sailing went well. Lots of nickpicky things though to deal with as we set up & took down the boat. I can't even remember anything of significance. It just all seemed to take forever before we actually got out sailing. So excited for when the day comes that our boat is already docked in the water & we can pretty much just put the sails up & go.

One exciting thing, in terms of progression of our dream, is that we got on the waiting list for a slip at the harbor. It might take ten years. -We are hoping not, as we are hoping to start cruising in the next couple of years but it felt like a serious step in terms of our sailing commitment.

I am definitely dealing with some issues of being patient. I want a boat to go cruising in & I want it now! I've been looking a YachtWorld.com daily & have already picked out a bunch of boats I would love to check out to purchase. The one problem though, & it's a major problem, is that we don't have the budget for it right now. Slightly frustrating. The only debt we have is our mortgage but it's a mountain of a mortgage. Our home is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, small house but it's in Santa Cruz, CA, so it was ridiculously expensive to buy. It's already gone way up in value but that still doesn't help us with the mortgage. We also want to save for retirement & add to our emergency fund. During this pandemic time we are reminded of why it's good to have ample savings. However, that leaves us a slow process of saving up for a boat. I have been racking my brain lately to see how we can have a better income. Hopefully I'll find a solution soon because I'm turning 49 later this year & don't really want to wait until I'm after 50 to find a boat.

All that being said, I am extremely grateful for what we do have & feel very blessed. I think it's the restlessness of being at home so much right now that's driving me extra crazy & making me extra impatient. Although, getting through this pandemic alive seems like the most important thing to focus on right now & I need to remind myself of that.

We do have a coastal cruising class coming up these next two weekends. So that is exciting! Praying that I do well, learn a lot & don't hit anything. Stay tuned....
